Sosebee Studios & Galleries are located on Nantucket's Old South Wharf, known for many years as “the artists’ row”, it is a wonderful destination with lovely flower gardens, locally owned boutiques and restaurants; a quint-essential “Nantucket” experience.  The galleries showcase many local artists who have an eye for capturing the distinctions that we love about this Island, as well as a beautiful selection of designer jewelry, collectable ornaments, and gifts between the two locations.
Doug and Debbie Sosebee, the owners of the galleries, met in 1969 at Paier College of Art in New Haven, Connecticut. The galleries also represent the work of accomplished island artists such as: Rowenna Anderson, Debbie’s father, Jack Eastman Brown, Barbara Capizzo, Victoria Harvey, Tom Mielko, Barbara Peavey, Jeanne Smith, and their daughter, Jessica Sosebee, as well as the unique jewelry of local resident Deborah Anderson.  New this year, the second location at 22 Old South Wharf will feature six collections of jewelry, which evoke the tranquility of the surrounding seas, featuring exclusively designed crystals, semi-precious stones, hand-blown glass, and more.

The style of the gallery is distinctly “Nantucket”, focusing on the beauty of the island by those whose lives and hearts are intertwined here. Throughout the summer you will find Debbie working on her exclusive line of hand painted ornaments or finishing a work in progress on her easel. There will be changing, weekly exhibits and demonstrations by the artists, providing a diverse palette for all who visit.

“ Art may be considered a luxury by some, however, we feel it offers a much more profound experience in our changing world. Art speaks a language all it’s own, and we believe the work we represent carries a message of beauty, joy and peace that people who come to Nantucket appreciate so much and want to bring home to enjoy for years to come.  We are both very grateful for the opportunity to express our creativity and pursue our love of painting. We know it is a gift from God and never take it for granted. As such, we hope to continually grow in our abilities and  always be willing to expand our vision. We love meeting people and a good part of our time is spent on commission work. We are happy to meet with you if you are interested in a special piece of art.”
